Public Policy & Government Relations

The public policy process has significant impacts on communities, organizations, and private enterprise. It’s important to understand the public policy process: what regulations and programs apply to your work, how and why they were created, and what opportunities you have to influence changes. 

Governments at all levels are important allies. Ultimately, in their mission to deliver services to their constituents, they often collaborate with each other and with private enterprise. 

Ange has worked in government in a range of roles from policy analyst to Chief of Staff across all three orders of government in Canada, and in consultation with Indigenous communities. With 12+ years of experience in political roles, +6 years working in government in policy development, operations and community-building roles, Ange has built a solid reputation for maintaining uncompromising values and integrity to guide sound decision-making.  This work in the public service and as political staff informs Ange’s deep understanding of intergovernmental dynamics and a network of productive, lasting relationships.

Achieving community acceptance takes time and meaningful consideration. It is a process, based on shared values, honest dialogue, actively listening, and clear expectations. Ange has spent 25 years building productive relationships across private, public, government, and community sectors to find solutions and deliver community consent.

The success of your project depends on understanding the local community context.  What is the local history? What are the shared hopes and aspirations? What tensions exist?  Who are the leaders and influencers? What voices and perspectives have been missing from the discourse?

Strategies, Solutions & Problem Solving

Ange is a connector and problem-solver by nature who loves finding solutions by bringing together the right people with a common goal and purpose.  She has founded organizations, negotiated community benefits agreements worth more than $75M, served on boards, advised on governance matters, created new models for delivering public amenities (affordable housing, parks, galleries, theatres). Ange played key roles in the establishment of funding models including a neighbourhood based participatory budget program with Toronto Community Housing, the CIty of Toronto’s Identify ‘n Impact community investment program for young people, and a micro-lending fund for entrepreneurs Access Community Capital Fund.
